David Goyer Screenwriting Lesson

David S. Goyer has a deliciously twisted mind. (They don’t call him “The Prince of Darkness” for nothing.) And he knows how to bring comic book characters and superheroes to kicking, screaming, vengeful life, as he did in The Crow: City of Angels, the Blade series, and Batman Begins. His intense Batman screenplay, written with director Christopher Nolan (Memento, Insomnia), resurrected the moribund Dark Knight franchise and confirmed his writing voice as a go-to source for a green light. Here, in this wry and surprising dialogue, Goyer reveals his tricks of the trade for how to intimidate a room full of studio executives, when to stand on principle, how to hook an actor’s ego with killer character descriptions and dialogue, and why fear can pay the bills.

Are you kidding me, those were a step above Trinity but they also sucked. But no matter, I still like him & believe that he will give Capt. America & the Deadpool movie a great treatment.Anyway, his best two films will always be Batman Begins & Blade II. Blade 1 was good but not as good as II and I don’t think he had as big a hand in the Dark Knight screenplay. It was mainly Jonathan Nolan’s screenplay & Goyer supposedly added a few scenes & dialogue
He’s a great writer who always has alot of plot holes but is overall cool.Just don’t let him direct (Blade: Trinity)
Hahaha why are you saying that ?
That s true Blade Trinity sucked but he directed The Invisible and the Unborn ,both turned out quite okey
Wow, the Flash! can’t wait for that one to hit the box office. Actually been waiting for a good flash movie for a while now. Green Lantern would actually be an awesome movie also.
Ryan Reynolds signed for Green Lantern, bro
Martin Campbell is directing. It s set up to be released 2011.
You should put (ON PHONE). It does take some space on your page, but it doesn’t have to. Instead let your characters talk through their actions. Actions worth thousands words.
You really don’t need to go to film school or screenwriting classes at all. You can learn just as much (if not more) from reading every book you can and most importantly – blogging. read other blogs about screenwriting etc. You’ll learn the basics so fast.
You can learn a lot just by reading books, but if you’re serious about learning screenwriting you should at least take some classes. After you’ve learned enough to be on your own, books will be easier to understand and learn with. Also reading scripts is the best way to learn faster.
I disagree that you need to go to classes. While I do agree they’re helpful because they MAKE you read and write what you need to – you have the encouragement, drive etc – I don’t believe they’re required to ‘make it’.But yes, the two most valuable things you can do as an aspiring writer is read (scripts) and write (scripts).
I heard millions or thousands of screenwriter vicitm getting hand off from hollywood. I don’t know if true or not. Hollywood do steal screenwriter idea without give them credit. They sell the ideas to highest bidder.Be careful where or how you sell it.
