www.ScreenplayClass.com Other people have great ways. I mean there are many, many, many wonderful books on how to structure screenplays, they just didn’t work for me. And I think that in the beginning it was maybe because I was kind of dumb and I just couldn’t get them, or maybe I just didn’t have the right kind of brain. Later I began to see it’s because they did not teach students to work with what I think of as a DNA strand of plot and character. In other words, I don’t think one can happen without the other. I don’t think you can design a script and put good characters in it. Of course you can, you can do whatever you want to do, but the best stories are where the plot and the characters in some way come together, if they in some way come into the writer’s mind together.Marilyn Horowitz, the author of “How to Write a Screenplay in 10 Weeks” and creator of The Horowitz Systemâ„¢, is an award-winning university teacher, a producer, a screenwriter, a script consultant and a successful writing coach.
